CAN-SPAM compliance checklist
A plain-English checklist for staying compliant with CAN-SPAM, the US email law, and how TinyCourier handles most of it for you automatically.
CAN-SPAM is the US law that governs commercial email. It sounds intimidating, but compliance is mostly common sense, and TinyCourier handles much of it for you. Here’s the plain-English checklist.
This is general info, not legal advice. If you’re unsure about your situation, talk to a lawyer.
The checklist
1. Don’t use deceptive headers. Your From name, address, and subject line must be honest about who you are and what’s inside. No tricks. TinyCourier sends from your verified domain, so your identity is always genuine.
2. Don’t use misleading subject lines. The subject must reflect the actual content. “You won a prize!” when you didn’t is a no.
3. Identify the message as an ad (when it is one). A newsletter your subscribers asked for is usually fine; a pure promotion may need to be identifiable as such.
4. Include your physical postal address. Every email must contain a valid mailing address. A P.O. box or registered mail-receiving address counts. TinyCourier adds this to every campaign automatically, you set it once.
5. Offer a clear way to opt out. Every email needs an obvious unsubscribe link. TinyCourier includes one in every campaign by default.
6. Honor opt-outs promptly. When someone unsubscribes, stop emailing them. TinyCourier does this instantly and automatically, an unsubscribed person never gets another campaign.
7. Don’t sell or transfer the email addresses of people who opted out.
What TinyCourier does for you
You’re covered on the trickiest parts out of the box:
- ✅ Required unsubscribe link in every email.
- ✅ Your postal address in every email.
- ✅ Instant, automatic opt-out handling.
- ✅ Genuine sender identity via domain authentication.
Set your address and footer once under Settings → Sending → Footer & compliance (see Set your sender and footer) and the rest is handled. Your main job: be honest, and only email people who want it.
